Spring Crop Share Registration Now OPEN!

Our Spring Crop Share round will begin on May 10th and run till June 28th, but registration for this new round has opened up TODAY!

This round we'll be sourcing all the produce from the East Coast, but we'll try to source as much locally as possible, despite the late start our farmers got to their growing season with the disappearing act Spring tried to perform on us.  Also, be on the lookout for forms in your Week 1 box, as we're now expanding the list of special inclusions you can add onto your pick up.  We understand that certain items you may not want on a weekly basis, but yet you'd love the convenience of one-stop-shopping.  So we'll be presenting you with a selection of specialty items you can request on a week-by-week basis, including local honey, Great Harvest Bread, McCutcheon's jams & fruit butters, and locally-roasted organic coffee from Cervantes Coffee.  In fact, you'll be able to sample products from both Great Harvest and Cervantes Coffee tomorrow (April 19) from 3-5:50pm!

Punxsutawney Phil may have wrongly predicted an early spring, but we can confidently predict 8 more weeks of wonderful spring produce!

As our short winter round of Crop Share is slowly winding down, we have opened up registration for our Deep Winter Crop Share. For this round, all produce will be domestic. This is probably the most diverse Crop Share of the year. A lot of the southern states will have great summer produce available like zucchini, eggplant, lettuce, sweet onions, radishes and more!

Winter Crop Share Registration Now Open!

As our Fall Crop Share is wrapping up, we have opened up registration for our Winter and Deep Winter Crop Share. The first round will only go for the 4 weeks in between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Deep Winter Crop Share will run January through the end of February. That way you all can get right back in the swing of things in between and after the holidays

Our Crop Share program started last Summer and has gained popularity ever since. Our CSA program is different from others because we source from multiple farmers, that means you get variety. Kind Words From a Crop Share Member

So we just happen to think that our Crop Share program is the bees knees. We love seeing the same faces come every weekend and see their eyes light up when they receive their boxes full of goodies. Well one of our crop share members, Abby Kelly, shared with us how much she is enjoying the program and we just had to share with you all.

A membership to the chain grocery store netted me a wimpy plastic card, slightly improved prices and the privilege of buying the same imported produce as everyone else.

Then, this summer, I discovered a little market called Nalls Produce. It was a lucky Google result to a desperate search for local, seasonal, affordable produce. On their website I found an invitation to join their crop share program.

Each week, Nalls staff selects from the best fruits and vegetables, sorts them into members’ boxes and then emails us to come collect them. For $160 up front, I receive a good sized box brimming with the farmers’ choicest picks of the season each week for eight weeks.

When I picked up my first box, I couldn’t have been more pleased, and every week it gets better. I have learned what fruits and vegetables are seasonal, not simply what the chain grocery store has shipped in from Timbuktu. Because the produce is often from just around the corner, the apples bite back, the corn spurts in my mouth and the squash is delectable.

I suppose that the vicinity of the produce has something to do with the fairness of the prices. Never before has $20 a week purchased so much food! As a vegetarian, I can eat my weight in fresh foods and with Nalls crop share, I rarely have to go anywhere else.

This summer, I made several batches of my own salsa using corn, tomatoes, onions and peppers from my crop share. I never made the same recipe twice. That was before I discovered the endless list of recipes available on Nalls website. New recipes are added regularly to suit the specific produce in each week’s box. Every single recipe posted has been tested and taste approved.

One day, standing by the eggplants, a gentleman was enthusiastic, “Isn’t this place wonderful? I can’t believe I’ve just found it!” He hadn’t heard of the CSA yet, so I told him about the beauty of the program. It’s like having a personal grocery shopper! By the time we bid farewell, he joined the crop share, too.

I feel like I’ve been adopted into a family. Each week, I pick up my box with my best friend. Usually, we run into people we’ve met the week before, and I’m getting to know the staff by name. Now this is what it feels like to belong!

Fall Crop Share Registration Now Open!

This our second Fall round and we are very excited for it. How it works is, you pay a fee up front and then pick up a package of pre-selected produce once a week. The selection is a surprise of hand-picked, quality produce. We try to keep the selection fresh, seasonal, and diverse, so you're not having the same thing for dinner every week! This round will be produce sourced from the East coast. It will include items like apples, pears, root vegetables and more.

Click here to register for Fall Crop Share online.

September 21st - November 9th. Pick up at Nalls, Friday 3:00-7:00 or Saturday 9:00-6:00

Large Share $320 feeds 4, appx 1/2 bushel. A LOT of food!

Small Share $160 feeds 2, appx 1 peck.

Some of you may have participated in CSAs in the past. Our program is a bit different. First, we don't commit you for great lengths of time. Our Crop Share runs 6-8 weeks at a time, pretty continuously all year. That way if you are out of town a lot in the summer or don't like winter vegetables too much, you can sit that round out. Second, we source from multiple farmers. That means that you get variety. We are not at the mercy of a tomato blight wiping out our crop and you not getting any tomatoes. We work hard to ensure diversity and quality!

Additionally, you can order "add-on" items by clicking here. These are items that you want that week in addition to your regular share pick up. These might include local grass-fed milk, organic local butter, local free-range eggs, Great Harvest bread, local raw honey, and more. You just indicate what items you want and we will have them waiting for you with your share. You just pay at the time of pick up.

We have started a new recipe blog that features the items from your weekly shares. You will also have a list of what you have that week and where it's from.
